About Us
When the opportunity to create a truly special experience within the South Downs National Park presented itself, Glen Manchester, a seasoned tech entrepreneur, and his wife Asta needed no extra persuasion. Captivated by the tranquillity of the location and the beauty of the surrounding area, with its rolling hills, glorious heathland, river valleys and ancient woodland, they have become dedicated to creating a charming setting for the local and wider community to enjoy.
The White Horse exudes warmth and luxury from the moment you enter its inviting bar or elegant dining room. Chef de Cuisine Grant Jones’ seasonal menus are underpinned by classical French techniques, learned during his formative years at Le Gavroche, and his team are dedicated to showcasing the region’s finest flavours and delights by working diligently with local suppliers, game keepers, Sussex Farms and fisheries. The beautiful food is complemented by a carefully curated wine cellar, including a very special collection of fine and rare vintages of Bordeaux style wines, as well as the New World and Tuscany.
When it is time for some rest and relaxation, every one of the six beautifully appointed bedrooms offer a home away from home amongst the stunning countryside. The poet Alfred Lord Tennyson described The Downs as "too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness" and we look forward to welcoming you to this uniquely beautiful part of England to experience it for yourself.
